Cheap health foods was the topic last week on the Dr. Oz show and I applaud his guest Dr. Hyman for profiling some of the best:
- adzuki beans
- daikon
- black rice
- canned salmon
- dark meat chicken
The aftershow clip also included sardines, kale and pumpkin seeds. They’re all super-duper nutritious and cost less than $1 per serving. Easy meals to make with these include:
- Saute garlic in olive oil, toss in some sardines (you have to give these a try!), mix in some cooked black rice and spoon onto a bed of sauteed kale.
- Boost your rice and beans by sauteing onions and a little garlic; add adzuki beans, season with a splash of white vinegar and hot pepper flakes to taste and mix with cooked black rice.
- Toss salad greens and your favorite chopped veggies with sliced daikon and canned salmon.
- Make up snack bags with pumpkin seeds and dried cranberries.
What meal ideas are you inspired to make? Have you ever eaten sardines? Like them or hate them?
