I spent a lovely lunch hour with my friend Julie in Ridgefield’s Garden Of Ideas. The word “oasis” comes to mind as I try to describe it, all eight acres of marsh, woodland, meadow and vegetable plots.
When I pulled into the parking lot, Julie was already there, shoes kicked off and basking in the sun. Recognizing a good idea when I see one, I joined her. Sitting there, quietly, felt much like the deep breathing portion of a relaxing yoga class.
We brought our lunch to enjoy at a small table situated in the center of it all. My contribution was Tuna, Baby Artichokes and Black Rice Salad. It was perfect topped with the tender young pea shoots that Julie received as part of the Garden’s CSA delivery.
After lunch, we strolled across the boardwalk set over the marsh, taking in the quiet and lushness of it all. Seen and unseen creatures kept us company, including this delightful little frog and some of his zen froggy friends. Everyone was peaceful and calm in the garden.
Too soon, it was time to go back to work. I left relaxed and resolved to return once a week to keep the peaceful feeling going.
How do you bring peace to your daily life? I’d love to read your comments below.
